Hello! Welcome to the brand new dental implants blog of the Peninsula Center of Cosmetic Dentistry. For a long time now, we’ve debated what a good platform to get the word out about dental implants to our Los Altos, CA area patients might be. After much discussion, we finally decided to try speaking directly to our patients through this blog. To start things off, Drs. Joseph Field, Bruce Hartley, and John McFarlane are writing from their office to talk about the various treatments we can provide using dental implants. We encourage you to read on to find out more about which implant treatments we can provide and which one might be best able to fit your individual needs.

A Treatment That Fits Your Needs

Whether you are suffering from a single missing tooth or a full arch of missing teeth, we can use dental implants to restore your smile. Some of the treatments we use at our practice include:

Single Tooth Restorations

When we receive a patient who is suffering from a missing tooth, the most commonly performed treatment method we use is a single tooth restoration. For this procedure, a single implant fixture is placed in the empty spot left behind by the patient’s missing tooth. As it heals, a process called osseointegration works to see the fixture accepted by your body as being no different from any of your natural teeth. Once healed, an abutment is attached to the implant fixture, followed by a porcelain crown, completing the restoration.

Multiple Teeth Restorations

Another common situation we receive at our practice is patients who arrive with multiple missing teeth. For these patients, we do provide the option of restoring each missing tooth with its own implant fixture and crown. However, if the patient has missing teeth that all border each other, an implant supported dental bridge may be a better treatment option. For this method, at least two implant fixtures are placed, one for the first missing tooth in the row and one for the last. Once healed, an abutment is attached to each implant fixture and the dental bridge connected at both points, completing the restoration.

Full Arch Restorations

The last type of restoration we perform is for our patients who are missing a full arch of teeth. These patients can still choose to restore each and every tooth with its own implant fixture and crown. However, this can be very expensive. Instead, you may want to consider an implant supported overdenture. For this treatment, four to six implant fixtures are placed along your arch. Once healed, an abutment is attached to each implant fixture and the overdenture connected at all points, completing the restoration.
