It’s the beginning of a new year, and that means it’s time for a fresh start! Improving your health and fitness is a worthy and common goal, especially after indulging in holiday feasts, and spending cold winter nights in with your family and loved ones, instead of hitting the gym.

Your teeth are a crucial aspect to your health and well-being. The beginning of the year is a perfect time to get the treatment you need (and deserve!) to maintain the health of your mouth and smile.

Dental implants are a crucial element to the health of many of my patients. Losing teeth is not the end of the world, and in fact, often dental implants are more functional than real teeth. Dental implants are becoming an easier and more common procedure, especially with the advances in technology.

People do have a tendency to put it off though, and the longer you do so, the more potential there is for complications to arise.

Does Getting Dental Implants Hurt?

One of the most common reasons people put off getting dental implants is the fear of pain. This is completely understandable, and I emphathize with my patients wholeheartedly. I have successfully treated many patients with dental phobia.  Surgery is scary, pain is no fun, and we all try to avoid it whenever possible.  That’s why we have such effective ways of minimizing, and sometimes avoiding pain altogether when we do our dental implant surgeries.

There are a couple of ways to avoid pain and stress during your dental implant surgery. One of the most effective ways is IV sedation. With IV sedation you are still conscious, yet completely relaxed. You will be able to comprehend what is happening, and ask questions if need be. Yet you well feel no fear or pain.

Between the local anesthetic and IV sedation, you won’t feel pain, and you won’t feel afraid.

One of the best things about using anesthetic for your implant surgery is a faster healing time. Because you will be so relaxed and stress free, we can work faster and more efficiently during the procedure. And since we can work so fast, the surgery is quicker, meaning less stress and trauma on your mouth.

Getting Dental Implants is Surprisingly Easy

I hear over and over from my patients, “That was so much easier than I expected”. Many even claim the procedure was even less stressful and painful than getting a crown. Of course, as with any surgical procedure, everyone’s experience is slightly different.

This is why I work closely and personally with all of my patients in order to ensure they have the best experience possible when getting g their dental implants, and that includes pain management.

Post procedure, patients are sent home that same day with instructions to take it easy, apply ice packs at intervals, and adhere to soft foods for a few days. Over the counter medications, such as Advil and Tylenol help with swelling and mild pain.

Occasionally a prescription for pain medicine is needed, and we will work with you and your pharmacist to make sure you have the medications you need for your implant surgery to go as smoothly and painlessly as possible.

Don’t let the prospect of pain get in the way of getting the dental implants you need. I promise to work closely with you to make sure you have the work you need done, with as less pain and stress possible.
